Two executives working with Hero Motorcorp were killed while five were seriously injured in a car crash on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway early Sunday morning.
Police said the incident took place between 12.30 and 1 am. "Seven Hero Motorcorp employees were in a Maruti van on their way to Gurgaon from Delhi. They were heading to their office near Hero Honda chowk for night duty," DCP (East) Nazneen Bhasin said.
The incident occurred when one of the occupants fell ill on the way and the van stopped near IFFCO chowk.
"Three of us got out of the car to help Devender, who was feeling nauseous. Rajesh, Anurodh and Pramod stayed in the car while Vineet, Ganesh and I got out," Sandeep Kumar, a colleague and eye-witness, said.
Police said while the van was parked on the left side of the expressway with its indicators on, a speeding Hyundai i10 lost control and hit it, dragging it by a few metres. Vineet (25) and Ganesh (26), who were standing outside the van were hit first. Vineet fell off the flyover while Ganesh came under the rear wheels of the car. Both died on the spot.
"The impact of the crash was so severe that the van was completely mangled. When Sandeep saw the car coming in their direction, he tried to escape, but fell and injured his hand," a police officer said.
The other occupants of the van were also seriously injured.
"They suffered multiple fractures and have been admitted to Medanta. The speeding Hyundai was also badly damaged. Himanshu, a property dealer and a resident of Ardee city, was driving the i10," the officer said.
