Farmers flock to Ludhiana to show off their inventions

More than 50 stalls presented by Krishi Vigyan Kenders, agriculture universities and self-help groups from all over India presented a picture perfect amalgamation of innovation and technology under one roof at the 'Exhibition and Innovative Market Place' organised on the occasion of the 7th National Conference on Krishi Vigyan Kendra-2012' at Punjab Agricultural University, which was inaugurated by Union Minister of Agriculture Sharad Pawar.

While the Assam Agriculture University offered their specialties like muga silk (Rs 14,000 per kg) and bhut jolokia (hottest chillies in the world), Sher-e-Kashmir university of Agricultural sciences and technology had on display unique varieties of apples (firodus, shireen) and walnuts.

KVK Chittoor had a herbal products stall while KVK Jaipur had special liquid soaps. KVK Kaithal provided sumptuous pickles made of karnoda, amla, suhajna and bel murabba. "These items have been exclusively introduced for farmers by KVK Kaithal only," said the representative.

KVK Bokaro had a whole range of food made from ragi like biscuits, cakes, chowmein and sewayya and demonstrated how a commonly found insect 'lac' on trees in Jharkhand is used by farmers in making bangles and handicrafts. While KVK Samastipur (Bihar) offered the most unique creation with slippers, hats, bags made of banana tree fibre.
