First take

When 24-year-old designer Masaba Gupta was appointed the creative director of iconic Indian fashion house, Satya Paul, a few months ago, there was visible excitement in the industry. Many wondered if her quirky cow print-like motifs will be seen on Satya Paul saris (it is time the brand got a makeover). Gupta's debut collection for the brand will feature at the Wills India Fashion Week (WIFW) Autumn-Winter 2013-14, to be held in the Capital from March 13-17. She will be opening the fashion week and has bagged the first slot on Day One.

" People expect that the collection will be different from the Satya Paul line since I have joined, but that's not the case. Satya Paul had become more about embellishments over time, I am bringing back the prints basically the old Satya Paul, with a refreshed look," says Gupta. Over 35 garments will be presented at the show, though these are not collections that the fashion house is known for. "We will have eight to 10 new silhouettes such as tunics, dresses and maxis, along with new versions and drapes of saris. We will using crepe, georgette, tulle blend, silk and jersey," she says.

Gupta is no stranger to WIFW. She had showcased twice at the week in 2010. "Our aim is to keep Satya Paul's strong legacy intact, as well, and attract a younger clientele," says Gupta.
