Focus on health, reduce stress: Expert

Teachers and high scorers in previous years are urging students to emphasise on minimising stress and focus on health during the 15-day run-up to the board exams.
Students and parents consider the SSC and HSC board exams academic landmarks. "Scores in these exams determine the choice of subject for higher studies and often shape careers. But pressure can take a heavy toll on students and even parents," said Basanti Roy, educationist and former Mumbai divisional board secretary.
The SSC exams begin on March 2.
Roy added, "What works for most toppers in these exams is a combination of hard work, discipline and activities to bust stress. An attitude that there is a life beyond the SSC and HSC exams help. The SSC timetable is student-friendly as they have got enough gap between two papers. Whatever preparation students have done, they must be confident and revise the same at the last minute rather than take up something new that they have missed."
Sanjana Nene, who scored 100 per cent (including 25 marks for sports) in SSC exams last year, says students s must avoid staying up late at night as that will affect their health. "Around 15 days before the board exams, students have a lot of things to concentrate on at the same time have to deal with the anxiety. Time management is crucial. The one big mistake that I did was to stay up late night and study. I fell ill just before the exams due to this. Students must instead wake up early in the morning and revise. In the last 15 days, students must solve model question papers of previous years. It is also important to relax and take care of health."
Another top-scorer of 2012, Neil Wagle, who also scored 100 per cent (including sports marks) said, "Stop reading new material just before the exams and revise older lessons. What counts is how well you can convince, how precise you are in your answers. In case of practical problems, a good way to impress the examiner is to solve a problem correctly in the least number of steps.
