For feedback on cops, state launches web portal

'Sukhbir lacks confidence in DGP'

Chandigarh: State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday questioned the rationale and intent of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in setting up a grievances portal and toll-free helpline at the state police headquarters.

"It either reflects the deputy chief minister's lack of confidence in himself or his own DGP. Who will allow a common man access to the fortified police headquarters in Chandigarh? A grievance cell should be in each police station. It is surprising and unprecedented that a deputy chief minister, who is also the home minister of the state, felt the need of setting up a grievance redressal system at the police headquarters next to the DGP's office," Amarinder said.

"...Launching a web portal is not going to solve the problems of law and order in the state, as long as the writ of Akali jathedars runs in police stations," he added.
