For marriage palaces, fire resistant material a must

The Punjab government on Thursday approved the policy guidelines and building norms for the regularisation of old as well as new marriage palaces in the state.

Now, an owner will have to pay from Rs 4 lakh per acre to Rs 50 lakh per acre to the state government to run a marriage palace. He will also have top ensure that the marriage palace doesn't have any entry or exit on the main road.

Under the policy, approved by the Cabinet in a meeting headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the regularisation of the new marriage palaces would be recommended by the district level committee. The regularisation of the existing marriage places would be permissible up to December 31, 2012 on payment of rationalised charges and no application would be entertained after December 20, 2012 for this purpose.

The policy has regulated the procedure and the entire state has been divided into seven zones for levying the Change of Land Use (CLU).

The policy also states where the marriage palaces can be set up in different land zones. In case of industrial zone, it has to be at a minimum distance of 100 m from the boundary of red category industry and 250 m from maximum hazard accidental industry as categorised by the Punjab Pollution Control Board. It should be at least 100 m away from schools, colleges and hospitals. Conversion of plots in approved residential, industrial estates, focal points will not be permissible for marriage palace under this policy.

For areas beyond 15 km from the limit of nearest municipal corporation and 5 km from the limit of nearest municipal council, the palace can be allowed on the link road with minimum set back of 5m from the road. However, the size of the marriage palace shall not exceed 2 acres.
