French Prez Hollande offers to tackle Mumbai woes

Saying that he was "struck" by Mumbai's dynamism and urbanisation, French President Francois Hollande offered a hand to help the city tackle its transport woes.

"Coming here to Mumbai, you are struck by the urbanisation and development," Hollande said, while addressing a meet organised by industry chambers on Friday. "French companies offer great transport technology and they can meet many of Mumbai's needs," he said.

Hollande also said Mumbai was a "land of possibilities". "This city is considered a land of possibilities, the place of dynamism and social ascension as well as a city of great cultural creation," he said.

About his travels in the city, he said one needed to only travel from the airport to the southern tip to understand the economic dynamism and the speed at which Mumbai has grown.

The French President also noted that the city was home to two of the world's biggest conglomerates — the Tatas and the Ambanis — besides being the "cradle of Indian cinema".

Hollande is on a two-day visit to push for vital trade contracts with the country.
