Ghaziabad plans Metro route 2

Phase II will run from Dilshad Garden to Mohan Nagar with four stops on way

Days before the inaugural run of the Metro to Ghaziabad, the Ghaziabad Development Authority has set in motion the process for a second Metro route extension in the district. The GDA has forwarded for approval a proposal for Metro Phase II in the area.

Confirming that the DMRC had given the green signal, GDA Chief Engineer Anil Garg said: "We have finalised the Phase II route of the Metro extension in Ghaziabad. While the first Metro route in Ghaziabad will cater to those commuting from South or Central Delhi via Anand Vihar, the second phase will be an extension of the Dilshad Garden Metro line. People commuting from Rohini North or West Delhi stand to benefit from this route."

The proposed Metro route will have six stations and will interlink with the proposed high speed rail route at Arthala. This route from Dilshad Garden to Mohan Nagar or Arthala will stretch over 7.31 km. The six stations will be Dilshad Garden, Shaheed Nagar, Shalimar Garden, Rajendra Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Mohan Nagar.

"The total budget for the proposed 7.31-km line will be Rs 1,282 crore. The DMRC has sent the funding pattern of the route to GDA. It divides the project expenditure between the Centre, DMRC and GDA. The GDA share will be Rs 815 crore, the Centre's Rs 275 crore and the DMRC will spend Rs 192 crore. The GDA has asked the state to distribute the expenditure among different departments so that the GDA does not incur the total costs alone. The GDA has already arranged Rs 50 crore for the project," Garg said.
