Police say not a case of honour killing, call it murder in a "fit of rage"
A 17-year-old girl was stabbed to death, allegedly by her brother, for meeting her boyfriend against the family's wishes on Monday night in Mandawali, East Delhi.
The brother, Sujit Sharma, is absconding. Police said he is above the age of 18.
Police rejected the claim that it was a case of honour killing and called it murder in a "fit of rage".
Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital officials called police around 1.15 am on Tuesday after the girl was taken there with stab wounds.
She was a student of Class XI at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya. Sujit, too, studied in the same class at the same school, but attended school in the evening shift.
From Samastipur in Bihar, the family shifted to Delhi and were living in a house at A-15, Gali 8, on Shastri Marg.
Police said around 9.30 pm, the girl went to visit her boyfriend Ankit (22) at his residence in E-Block (West), Vinod Nagar. Ankit works as a supervisor for a private contractor and lives with his uncle Dilip Gupta, a tuition teacher.
After she reached Ankit's house, his uncle called up her parents to say that it was "inappropriate" for her to meet his nephew so late in the night, police said.
Around 11.30 pm, her father Ram Kumar and stepmother Sunita reached Ankit's house to take her home.
According to police, while her grandparents, aunt and uncle were counselling her later in the night, Sujit stormed into the room, picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her in her stomach. Scared, he then fled.
The girl died of excessive blood loss at LBS Hospital.
According to police, the girl and Ankit met three months ago. She visited Ankit's house often, even though the two families did not approve of it.
