Goa Police seeks new witnesses in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore

Goa Police have sent teams to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore to record the statements of individuals whom the complainant in the Tehelka case called on the night of November 7, soon after the alleged sexual assault. Among the people whom investigators will meet are the journalist's parents. Police have booked former Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal under Section 376 (2) (f) of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, applicable in cases of rape by a person "being a relative, guardian, or teacher or in a position of trust" towards the victim.

"There are at least seven new witnesses including a stepsister, whom the victim called immediately after the first alleged act of sexual assault. There are a few of her friends and some others. Most of the victim's allegations have been corroborated as everyone has given the same details," said an official.

Some of these witnesses were also present at ThinkFest, and were told about the incident verbally by the victim, the official added.
