Gokarnís term extended till Dec 31

The government on Wednesday extended the term of Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Subir Gokarn till December 31.

His term was due to end on November 24. He was appointed in November 2009 for a period of three years.

Subir Gokarn got extension up to December 31 this year, said D K Mittal, secretary-financial services.

Deputy governors of the Reserve Bank of India can be appointed for a maximum term of five years or until the attainment of 62 years of age, whichever is earlier.

Gokarn looks after key portfolios including monetary policy and economic analysis and policy departments at the central bank.
