Gun of Punjab MLA’s security officer goes off, driver hurt
Reportedly, the incident was an accident and there was no enmity between the driver and the PSO
The carbine gun of a personal security officer (PSO) of Congress vice president of Punjab and MLA from Guru Har Sahai assembly constituency Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, on Saturday went off accidentally outside his residence in Sector 4, Panchkula leaving his driver injured.
According to police and family members, the incident happened at around 4.45 pm when the son of the MLA and member of Punjab Congress committee, Heera Sodhi, was about to board the vehicle and the personal security officer and the driver of the MLA were standing outside it.
Heera Sodhi said that the gun went off accidentally and the driver, Gurvinder Singh, who was standing nearby got injured in the incident. He was immediately rushed to the PGIMER where he was being operated upon when reports last came in. Doctors said that he received a bullet in the lower abdomen.
Heera Sodhi said that it was only an accidental fire and there was no enmity between the driver and the PSO.
Following the incident, police personnel from the Sector 5 police station rushed to the spot and the investigations in the case are continuing. Station House Officer (SHO), Sector 5 police station, Ajay Singh, who was present at the site of the incident said that the matter is being investigated.
Singh said that the driver however was not in a position to give any statement to the police. The police inspected the site and the guard room.
Family members of the MLA said that he has gone to Delhi for a personal visit.
