Rival group said they were attacked by Pal's gang
A local gang leader and Trinamool Congress worker was injured with gunshots after he was attacked allegedly by a rival faction of the party in Raigunj in North Dinajour on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at Raigunj bus stand when local TMC worker Bhola Pal's car came under gunfire as he was on his way to home from Moonlight Club. "At least 30 rounds of gunfire were exchanged between them and 20 bombs were hurled at the car," said an eyewitness.
Another local Trinamool worker, Ainul Haque, and his men are said to behind the attack. Pal received a gunshot in his leg and some bomb splinters on his body. He was taken to Raigunj District Hospital. Neither Pal nor his associates have lodged any complaint with the police. "There was a lot of smoke and we couldn't see anyone. We were busy taking Bhola da to the hospital," said Subrata Sarkar, one of Pal's aides.
Later speaking to the mediapersons, Haque alleged that he was attacked by Pal's gang members while he was on his way to the police station for attendance. "Bhola Pal along with Biplab Kshetry, Tinku, Chutki and Jango Singh, started firing at me. I had to run for my life," he said.
Asked how come Bhola's car was damaged, he said, "After I escaped, Bhola's men damaged his car so that the story of attack can be cooked up." He also added that Pal wanted to eliminate him as he was a prime witness in one of the cases against the local gang leader.
Sameer Pal, Inspector in Charge of Raigunj police station, said they are investigating the matter. "We have found a number of spent bullets inside as well as outside the car. We are investigating who shot whom," said the police officer.
