Gurjant, Gagan guide ONGC into last four

A brace each by Gurjant Singh and Gagan propelled ONGC to an easy 7-1 win over EME and into the semi-final of the 42nd SN Vohra's All India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament being played at Sector 42 Sports Complex on Friday. In a match, which saw ONGC playing attacking hockey, Gurjant and Gagan set up brilliant moves for the winning team.
The match started on an attacking note as ONGC forwards made some attacking moves into the opposition half. Their efforts soon paid dividends as it resulted into an own goal by EME in the 11th minute of the match. Seven minutes later, ONGC scored their second goal when Diwakar Ram scored a field goal to make it 2-0 in favour of ONGC. Bajaj Ekka scored the first goal for the EME team in the 27th minute of the match. Gagan scored his first goal in the 30th minute of the match to put ONGC ahead by 3-1. At half-time, ONGC were leading by 3-1 in the match. The second half also began on an attacking note and ONGC forwards made some inroads into the EME half. Gagan scored his second goal of the match in the 51st minute of the match before Gurjant Singh scored his first goal of the match in the 59th minute of the match to make it 5-1 in favour of ONGC. Buoyed by his first goal, Gurjant scored his second goal of the match two minutes later in the match to increase the leeway for the ONGC team. Jagwant scored the seventh goal for the ONGC team in the 65th minute to set up the 7-1 win for the team.
In the second quarter-final match of the day, Indian oil Corporation scored a narrow 3-2 win over Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala to sail into the semi-final stage of the tournament.
