Gurpreet Singh's strike in the dying minutes of the match ensured a 2-2 draw for District Football Association against the mighty Dalbir Football Academy, Patiala, on the opening day of the 7th Kanwar Harbans Lal Memorial football tournament for seniors, at the Sector 17 Football Stadium on Friday. The Dalbir Academy team, which reached the final of the Administrator's Challenge Cup All India football tournament for Under-17 recently before losing to Chandigarh Football Academy, were heading towards victory before Gurpreet's goal spoiled their party and they had to share points with the Mohali team.
Earlier, indulging in attacking moves, both the teams raided the opposition territory on numerous occasions. Till the first half of the hour, the defenders were successful in keeping the forwards at bay but that changed when Gurpreet Singh, skipper of the Dalbir Academy team, put his team ahead with a superb finish in the 38th minute of the play.
The Patiala team enjoyed the 1-0 lead till the 54th minute when Jashan, the captain of the Mohali outfit, restored parity for the team by slotting home the equaliser. Both the teams fought for the possession of the ball and looked to get that second goal to put themselves in the driving seat. And it happended soon. Satwinder came as a super-sub and he put the Patiala team ahead through a clinical finish in the 59th minute of the play. The Patiala team, which enjoyed a tremendous run in the Administrator's Cup, looked good to secure all the points before Gurpreet came to his team's rescue and banged in the equaliser in the dying minutes of the match. The match ended in a 2-2 draw and both the teams got one point each.
