A strong pitch for giving a larger role to Rahul Gandhi was made by two Congress Chief Ministers at the party rally here today which saw the young leader underlining the need to further open up the political system for the youth.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his Rajasthan counterpart Ashok Gehlot said Gandhi should be given a bigger role at the national level so that a larger message goes to the youth and the country.
Party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi, who had recently said that Rahul is number-2 in Congress, hailed the young leader as "future" of India.
Exhorting the youth to join politics, Gandhi said change could not be ushered into the country till the youth join the political system.
He said the current political system needs to provide a more active role to the youth and those belonging to weaker and underprivileged sections of the society.
"The doors of our political system are shut for the common man," he said.
"Unless we open the doors for the common man, we cannot develop. Who will change the political system other than Congress. Change in the country will begin the day the voice of India begings resonating in Congress," Gandhi said.
Gandhi, who has been favouring changes in the functioning of his party for long, said," I want to talk about future and about Congress party as well. We have to open our closed doors for the youths. We have to learn from our party workers because they are our back bone. As long we will not change Congress as long as we will not open our doors, the country will not progress".
Referring to the induction of young ministers in the Union Cabinet, he said they will help change the political system.
