HC junks PIL against Shinde remark

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday rejected a PIL filed by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) against the statement of Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, in which he had said that the RSS and BJP were training people in acts of terrorism in their camps.

Shinde made the statement on January 20 at the Congress "chintan shivir" in Jaipur. The PIL had demanded that the respondents, including Shinde, be directed to protect the right to freedom of professing and propagating religion. It also demanded that the minister be restrained from making such statements, which could be detrimental to the national sovereignty and integrity.

Hearing the PIL, a division bench of Chief Justice Shiva Kirti Singh and Justice Dilip Gupta rejected it on the ground of maintainability. The court was of the view that there were other alternative remedies at the level of judicial magistrate, regarding the grievance of the petitioner.

On January 20, Shinde had said that investigations had revealed that the BJP and the RSS were conducting training camps to spread terrorism.
