Hit-and-run: BMW car owner surrenders, another accident victim succumbs to injuries

The 27-year-old BMW owner was arrested Wednesday after he surrendered before city police in connection with a hit-and-run case at judged Bungalow Road three days ago. Meanwhile, one more accident victim, who was on ventilator, succumbed to injuries in hospital, while other two admitted in hospital are still in critical conditions, police said.
In that accident, one person died on the spot and three rushed to a nearby hospital in critical conditions.
The suspect, Vismay Shah, surrendered in the Vastrapur police station in the morning and reportedly confessed to his crime. Vimay's BMW had hit two motorcyclists at a crossing near near Lad society on Sunday night.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector-1) Ajay Tomar said, "We have arrested Vismay Shah, on whose name the BMW car was registered. We are questioning him and will seek his remand for further custodial interrogation."
The CCTV footage showed how a black BMW car hit the bikers at the crossing. The footage also showed that Vismay came out of the car, looked back and then fled in a WagonR car that his friend brought to pick him up from the spot.
The police have booked him under Section 304 of the IPC for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. While one of the bikers, Shivam Dave, an engineering student, was killed on the spot, his friend Rahul Patel succumbed to his injuries in a hospital this morning, police said.
Sivam's father had threatened to go on a hunger strike and met the city police commissioner for speedy investigations. The traders in Ghatlodia have called for a bandh on Wednesday to protest against the death of the two boys in the accident and negligent attitude of police.
