Bhondsi village saw unprecedented security cover on Wednesday. At 12.30 pm, villagers gathered around a white tent near martyr Subedar Kanwarpal Singh Raghav's native home. A large framed photo of the martyr stood on a large table for people to pay homage.

Soon, a cavalcade of VIP cars stopped on the Sohna highway. The Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, was visiting the village to meet the family members of Subedar Kanwarpal Singh Raghav who died in an attack in South Sudan, where he was part of the UN Peacekeeping Force on December 19.

Hooda assured the family that they would receive full support from the family.

The mortal remains of Subedar Kanwarpal Singh Raghav were flown to India and consigned to flames on December 23. He had served the Army for 27 years and was a soldier of 8 Rajputana Rifles Armed Medical Corps. The family members had earlier expressed anger that no information on him was available for three days.

The panchayat members informed the chief minister about the family's fragile financial condition. Hooda directed the Deputy Commissioner (Gurgaon), Shekhar Vidyarthi, to immediately give Rs 10 lakh to the martyr's family. "We will give a government job for his daughter who is in BSc final year. A senior secondary school in Bhondsi will also be named after the soldier and a memorial built in his name," assured Hooda.

He said the family would be given all state government benefits under the policy for martyrs.

"We are happy that the Chief Minister met us. His assurance has brought some hope for the family that has lost its sole bread earner," said Subedar Raghav's brother Ramesh Singh. Transport Minister Aftab Ahmed, Badshahpur MLA Rao Dharampal, and other administration and police officials were present at the prayer meet.
