What do you do with a film which is purportedly a comedy and delivers not one single laugh? This thought struggled to come to the fore, but the poor thing never had a chance, given the relentless awfulness of 'Hum Tum Aur Shabana'.

Two guys fighting over a girl, despite being the oldest idea in the book, can be freshened by a director who knows what he is doing. Is this really Sagar Ballary who helmed `Bheja Fry'? Given that `Bheja Fry' was a frame-by-frame copy, it still required a modicum of footwork to fit that into an Indian milieu. Or was that film's appeal down to its actors : Rajat Kapoor-Vinay Pathak- Ranvir Shorey?

This one has Tusshar Kapoor-Shreyas Talpade-Minissha Lamba. The fellows have had long practice in hamming it to the hilt in braindead comedies. And that's a perfectly acceptable thing. No point in trying to be brainy in such films where the possession of it is a liability. But then those movies are done by those who understand the genre, and know exactly how to get the laughs.

Not one person on this enterprise would know a genuine laugh if it came and bit them in their behind. Lamba plays the contestant of a beauty pageant, and the two guys rivals for her affection, in some obscure spot in Goa. We know it is Goa because a map shows us an arrow between Mumbai and Goa, or it could be any beat-up hotel with a beat-up pool, and sorry extras behaving like models. There's also a ramp, and judges, and a contest, all of which is gone through with not one little snigger : it helps that the leading lady doesn't seem to have a single solitary funny bone in her body.
