Reliance ADAG chairman Anil Ambani appeared as a witness in the CBI court hearing the 2G scam cases and said he was unaware of transactions between his group companies and Swann Telecom Pvt Ltd, which is accused of wrongdoing.

Ambani's response to most questions asked by CBI prosecutor U U Lalit was that he did not recall the transaction and would accept whatever was in the agency's documents.

Ambani was summoned to testify on the transfer of shares and financial transactions between ADAG's alleged "front companies".

Judge O P Saini asked Ambani to "recall something". "You must be knowing the name of the promoter of the companies. This is just an advice for you. It can go against you also that you even don't know the names of your companies. So be careful," the court said when Ambani said there were a large number of firms in his group.

Ambani said he was on many boards, and could not recall details of each meeting and discussion. He said he had no knowledge of the transactions between Swann and his group companies in 2005-06.

"Do you know that a person who makes a false statement in court can be prosecuted and punished under the law?" the court asked after the CBI said Ambani was turning hostile and denying his statements to the agency.
