IIT Kharagpur professor offers a certified online course on WizIQ

IIT KharagpurWizIQ course at IIT Kharagpur gives participants an opportunity to attend two sessions at IIT campus.

Professor Somnath Sengupta of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, is proud to launch his first-ever live online Certificate Course in Image and Video Communication [http://go.wiziq.com/2qox ], starting from February 8, 2014. The course is offered via leading online education platform, WizIQ. Not only does the course offer an insight into the genius that operates at the IIT, Kharagpur campus but it also gives participants an opportunity to attend two sessions at the IIT campus.

It gives an opportunity to engineering/science students, software developers, teachers and research scholars to look behind the scenes of image and video processing, from basic and classical tools to the most modern and advanced algorithms.

This course provides comprehensive coverage of image and video communication tools and techniques in use today. Unlike conventional courses, it lays emphasis on communication rather than processing. The course addresses topics such as source data compression and coding, error resiliency and channel coding, networked delivery of image and video and design of codecs in VLSI architecture/software, among others.

Prof. Somnath Sengupta says, "It is the first-ever live online course of its kind. If students' objective is not to learn the basics alone, but in addition they wish to go a bit advanced - in terms of system design or even cutting-edge research - they will find this course to be a very valuable companion."

The 4-month course starts on February 8, 2014 and ends on May 17, 2014. Though a significant part of the course will be conducted online via the WizIQ Virtual Classroom, it also has in-campus sessions at IIT Kharagpur campus.

The first and last phase will comprise regular classes and valedictory at the IIT Kharagpur Campus. The sessions will also be available online on WizIQ for those who can't attend on site training. The second phase will comprise online classes on WizIQ, which participants will be able to attend from wherever they want to.
