IIT-B, ’87 batch comes calling
To build a dedicated cadre of students to focus on housing, water and energy development in rural areas and tier II and tier III cities, a Technology and Development Consultancy Cell (TDCC) is coming up at IIT Bombay, as part of the Legacy Project of the 1987 batch. On Saturday, the batch of '87 will converge for their silver jubilee reunion.
ICT books in English & Marathi put students in fix
With final exams just three months away, students studying in vernacular medium schools have been left in the lurch with textbooks for the newly-introduced subject Information and Communication Technology (ICT) still unavailable in regional languages.
The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has published the ICT textbooks only in English and Marathi.
Cabinet meet on drought to be held tomorrow
A special Cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow to discuss reasons for the delay in providing relief to people in drought-hit areas like Marathwada. On Wednesday, the Cabinet sought the release of funds kept for affected regions and the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan assured that funds earmarked for the drought-prone areas would be released in the form of a consolidated fund at the earliest.
'Rape victim' lied to escape parents' wrath
A 15-year-old girl from Trombay who alleged that she was abducted and gangraped on Wednesday has found herself at the focus of police investigation a day later. The police confronted her based on her medical examination report that ruled out rape. The hearing-and-speech impaired girl allegedly cooked up the tale to escape the wrath of her parents who found her missing when the returned home. She had allegedly been with her boyfriend and lied about being raped because she did not want her parents to find out.
