In first week, 1,500 visit executive lounge at New Delhi station

The executive lounge at the New Delhi railway station has received overwhelming response in the first 10 days of its operation. Launched on December 20 at Platform 16, the lounge has had a daily average of 200 passengers.
A total of 1,431 passengers visited the lounge in its first week.
"We have received tremendous response in the first week. The number of passengers visiting the lounge has also been increasing by the day," a senior Railways official said. The lounge has seen maximum occupancy between 4 pm and 9 pm.
Officials from other Railways divisions have also visited the lounge to provide similar facilities in their region.
The two-storey fully carpeted lounge offers passengers unique décor, high-end furniture and comfortable recliners.
The lounge also has private cabinets on both floors.
Spread over an area of 300 sqm, the lounge can accommodate 125 people at a time.
A passenger has to pay Rs 300 for three hours to avail the facility, and every subsequent hour costs Rs 125. The facility has proved a good revenue booster for the Railways. In the first week, the lounge earned around Rs 5 lakh, added the official.
The lounge was built at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
"We also maintain a feedback book for the commuters. People have pointed out that there should be more awareness about the lounge. People don't know about the facility. Some who visited the lounge, did not know that the buffet was included in the package. We will now put up boards on station premises to advertise the lounge and publicise it over public announcement system," the official said.
