India's Mars Mission: Who said what

India on Tuesday embarked on its maiden Mars odyssey with ISRO successfully launching the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).

Soon after the successful lift-off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, accolades and congratulatory wishes started pouring in from political leaders and others, lauding the ISRO and its scientists.

Here is a look at who said what on ISRO's successful launch of Mars Mission:

Sonia Gandhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi lauded scientists for the successful launch of Mars Orbiter Mission, saying every Indian is proud of this "outstanding scientific feat". "Gandhi has lauded the Indian space scientists for their successful launch of the historic Mangalyaan (Mars craft) Mission. Every Indian is proud of this outstanding scientific feat by our great scientists," an AICC release said.

Narendra Modi: BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi also congratulated the ISRO scientists saying the milestone has placed India in a select club of countries.

"The probe will help the human race better understand the relation (between the two planets)," he said. "When we had success in Chandrayan mission, I had gone there (ISRO) to thank the scientists and technicians. Today, I am not able to go there but I congratulate them all those involved in the successful launching of the Mars Mission".

ISRO Chief: "I am extremely happy to announce that the PSLV C25 placed Mars Orbiter Mission precisely in elliptical orbit about 44 minutes after lift off," said ISRO Chief K Radhakrishnan while congratulating his colleagues for their efforts.

Mission Director: Mission director P Kunhikrishnan said from the launch site: "Capturing and igniting the young minds of India and across the globe will be the major return from this mission."

Abdul Kalam: Former President and renowned scientist A P J Abdul Kalam also complimented ISRO and said the Mars orbiter of India "is in a great mission of a 400 million km journey which has commenced today successfully".
