Seeking reply into his allegation about payment of cash to ministers in Jammu and Kashmir, the privilege committee of the state Legislative Council on Thursday decided to summon former army chief Gen V K Singh through Haryana police for appearance before it on January 22.

This follows his non-appearance before the committee which had issued him a notice seeking his reply into the charges about payment of cash out of army's secret fund to ruling politicians. However, the former army chief in his letter to the council chairman has already denied the charge.

Devender Rana - one of the privilege committee member, denied getting any reply from General Singh and said that as the former army chief has preferred not to appear before them today, they have unanimously decided that summons be sent to the Haryana Director General of Police for service on the former army chief seeking his appearance before them on January 22 at 2.30 pm. A copy of the summon will also be sent to the Haryana vidhan sabha speaker, he added.

"In case of Singh's failure to appear before privilege committee on January 22, we will have to resort to other options available under law," he said. When asked about the options, he said that everybody knows well about those options.

The privilege committee of the council had issued notice to General Singh for appearance before it on January 9 following uproar by in the Legislative Council session in Valley over Singh's statement about payment of money to politicians out of army secret funds in the state.
