Jaswinder Singh to recite Faiz poetry

Poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz's works will come alive in the city on July 30, well known ghazal singer Jaswinder Singh along with celebrated Urdu poet Dr Rahat Indori will showcase some of Faiz's finest works in the city. The two artists are here on invitation from Ludhiana Sanskritik Samagam.

Jaswinder Singh is known for his soulful music in films like Saath Saath and Arth to name a few. Faiz himself needs no introduction specially for the people who are lovers of ghazal. A staunch marxist and a leading member of the Progessive Writers Movement, Faiz started out his career as a writer of love poetry, but the harsh realities of life compelled him to bring in larger social issues.

Jaswinder Singh said, "Faiz is a very progressive poet. His verses are very thought provoking and meaningful."

Accompanying Jaswinder on stage will be Dr Rahat Indori whose research and publications of Faiz are well known. Indori will be explaining the philosophy, works and thoughts behind the verses. He will also share some interesting anecdotes from the life of the great poet.
