Fortis Hospital, Mohali celebrated the World Arthritis Day on Friday at a unique function wherein about 500 people attended a 'Friends of Fortis' meet organised at a hotel. Renowned Hindi poet and humorist Surendra Sharma and well known actress Sulabha Deshpande participated in the meet.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Manuj Wadhwa, Director and Head, Orthopedics and Joint Replacement, at the hospital said, "Arthritis cripples the basic mobility of a person and consequently impacts the life of the entire family as the person becomes dependent on them to look after all his or her needs".
Highlighting the joy a treatment brings into the life of a family, a short play was staged on how 17-year-old Simran overcame the crippling disease and, after being bed-ridden for over 6 years, was able to walk again after a path-breaking surgery conducted by Wadhwa and his team.
On the occasion, a fashion show, ramp walk was held wherein, a number of citizens of the tri-city also participated. Most of those who walked the ramp had got their joint replacements done earlier and displayed how their life had returned to normal, free of pain.
An energetic bhangra was presented comprising joint replacement patients, that had the audience up and dancing with them, defying the notion that knee replacement patients remain confined to their seats.
The chief guest was Aditya Vij, CEO, Fortis Healthcare India and the guest of honour was Daljit Singh, President, Strategy of Organisational Development, Fortis Healthcare Ltd.
