Joshi remains in fray with hat-trick of wins

Devendra Joshi fashioned three crucial wins in the double elimination round for losers to keep his hopes alive in the P J Hindu Gymkhana National 6-Red Snooker Championship co-hosted by Elphinstone Cricket Club on Tuesday.

Joshi, who lost his second qualifying round to Aseem Arora of Haryana earlier in the day, registered three back-to-back wins against Abhijit More of Karnataka, Gurdit Singh of Delhi and Vishal Gehani of Maharashtra respectively to remain one win away from making it to the main draw that kicks off on Wednesday.

Joshi, of Bharat Petroleum, recovered from a 1-3 deficit against Arora to force the decider before he lost a tight final frame.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Gulati of Delhi, Hemanth Kumar of Railways, Shivam Arora of Bihar, India sub junior No. 3 Ishpreet Singh Chadha of Maharashtra and Viren Sharma of Madhya Pradesh squeaked into the main draw from the double elimination round.

The others to qualify for the main draw were Rovin D'Souza, Chandresh Shah and Arun Agrawal of Maharashtra, R Santosh of Karnataka, Varun Kumar of Tamil Nadu and K Venkatesh of Railways, following wins in the third and final qualifying round.
