The anti-rape crusaders of Kamduni have now formally formed a forum to protest against any illegal or criminal activity in the area.
The forum, which has been named Kamduni Pratibadi Mancha, has been formed on the lines of Sutia Pratibadi Mancha and conducted its first meeting Sunday. One of the women who led the ant-rape protests in the area, Mausami Kayal, has been made the secretary of the forum while local school's headmaster, Pradeep Mukherjee, is the advisory member to the forum.
"The word pratibadi has been intentionally kept to create a connect with the other forums that have come up to protest against similar issues," Mukherjee said.
The meeting was conducted under a tree at the village and about 45 villagers, including the four family members of the victim, who was raped and murdered on June 7, attended it. It had been decided in the meeting that by September 10, a procession protesting against the delay in justice for the 22-year-old college girl who was brutally raped and killed will be taken out. "About 14 sportspersons, including women, and intellectuals who are known for speaking out against the atrocities on women, have been invited. People like Saswati Ghosh and Asim Giri have already given their consent to join us," said a senior member of the forum.
The forum will also launch a campaign soon urging people from anywhere to join the cause. "We have kept a registration fee of Rs 2 for anyone who wants to join the forum and unite with us in the fight that we have begun," Mukherjee said.
Looking at the nationwide appreciation that the forum had received, Mausumi said, "We will see this fight to the finish and are not going to stop there. We will stand beside any such sufferer. We will visit places where any such incident takes place and motivate people to fight against this menace," he said.
