The Kheda police Sunday arrested a 25-year-old engineering student for sending an e-mail from a fake ID, claiming responsibility for the Hyderabad bomb blasts, 26/11 Mumbai attacks and Pune's German Bakery bomb blast.
The e-mail, sent to a Gujarati news channel on Saturday, had also threatened to blow up the state Assembly, Ahmedabad railway station, BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad and DDIT University in Nadiad.
Sriram Krishnamadan Vyas, a student of Nadiad's Dharmsinh Desai Institute of Technology (DDIT), wrote in his mail that five undersigned persons in the mail belonged to terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, and demanded Rs 50 crore ransom otherwise he would detonate RDX and dynamite at the four places.
The state ATS alerted police at Kheda, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, and forwarded a copy of the email. Sleuths of Kheda Local Crime Branch, Special Operations Group and Nadiad town police traced the IP address of the email ID to a cyber café in Nadiad. The email ID was created in the name of one Vipul Leuva.
Kheda DSP Makrand Chouhan said Vyas confessed to sending the threat mail from a fake email ID that contained Leuva's mobile number. He allegedly did so to settle personal scores with Leuva and his family. According to police, Leuva's sister and Vyas were classmates at the DDIT. "He seems mentally disoriented and wanted to teach a lesson to the girl with whom he had shared good friendship earlier," Chauhan said.
"The mobile number given in the mail belonged to Leuva, who denied having written the mail. Upon further enquiry we learnt that Vyas had written the mail to allegedly take revenge on his female classmate, her brother and her father," Chouhan said.
According to the police, Vyas had tried to implicate the girl, her father and her brother, besides some of her friends in the terror attacks.
