AAP to form govt in Delhi, Kejriwal to take oath as CM at Ramlila Maidan

KejriwalAam Aadmi Part leader Arvind Kejriwal met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to stake claim to form government in Delhi.

Putting an end to days of speculation over who would form the next government in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has now decided to go ahead and assume office. AAP had emerged as the second largest party with 28 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections and is slated to form the government with the support of Congress, which was decimated in the polls, managing to secure win on just eight seats.

Here are the highlights:

1:24 pm: The Aam Aadmi Party has staked claim to form government in Delhi. Lt Governor Najeeb Jung told the party, led by Arvind Kejriwal, that he would convey the same to President Pranab Mukherjee, who would decide on further course of action.

1:15 pm: AAP CM candidate Arvind Kejriwal has said that the date for his swearing-in ceremony will be decided after directions from President Pranab Mukherjee. He further said that the venue for the ceremony would be Ramlila Maidan.

12:44 pm: AAP CM candidate Arvind Kejriwal meets Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to stake claim to form government.

12:24 pm: Former Karnataka Lokayukta, Justice Santosh Hegde has hailed the decision of Aam Aadmi Party to form the next government in Delhi. He said, "They have taken a good decision, I congratulate them...let them administer as long as they can"

11:34 am: BJP leader Harsh Vardhan attacked AAP over taking support from Congress party, saying while it had always talked about eradicating corruption, it had now joined hands with corrupt people. He went on the say that Kejriwal and his party had betrayed people of Delhi by taking support from Congress.

The Delhi BJP CM candidate also hit out at the Congress, accusing it of making a "backdoor entry".

He, however, wished luck to the Aam Aadmi Party, asking them to work for the welfare of people.
