Lt Gen questions appointment of Army commanders

Lt Gen Ravi Dastane, who is currently the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, has moved the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) challenging the appointments of Lt Gen Dalbir Singh as the Eastern Army Commander and Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra as the Western Army Commander.

Dastane has said that he was overlooked for the post. He has said the post of Eastern Army Commander was kept vacant for days after a discipline and vigilance ban was placed on Dalbir Singh by then Army Chief General V K Singh. Dastane has pleaded that he too was eligible for the post of Army Commander and should have been elevated. Dalbir Singh is in line to be the next Army Chief after General Bikram Singh retires in 2014.
