Mali: France kept India in the loop

French President Francois Hollande had kept the Indian government "in the loop" on its intervention in Mali since the beginning, government sources told The Indian Express on Tuesday, ahead of his first State visit to India on February 14.

In fact, New Delhi on Tuesday joined hands with the international community in Brussels to help the African initiative to stabilise the country and the government in Mali. The move came as India was extremely concerned at the terrorists and fighters, trained in Afghanistan-Pakistan border region, trying to destabilise the country.

At a meeting of the Support and Follow-up Group on Mali in Brussels, India reiterated its commitment of $100 million for a power project in Mali, which was announced last week.
