Maluka: Donít have funds to spruce up general category area of stadium

While around Rs 1 crore is being spent on making arrangements for the final day of the Kabaddi World Cup in Guru Nanak Stadium of Ludhiana, if chairman of the Organising Committee Sikander Singh Maluka is to be believed, they don't have enough funds to spruce up the general category area of the stadium.

"We have made many stadiums across the state, but now not have enough funds to maintain them. Will be making a separate fund for maintaining these stadiums," he said.

The major thrust of the committee is on sprucing up the VVIP and VIP blocks of the stadium which were renovated last year as well. Canopies have been installed on blocks B and F ó the VIP blocks. The remaining work of block F canopy will be done after the final match.

Though only a day is left for the final day, the upkeep of the stadium is going at a snail's pace. But the authorities maintain that things will be in order on the final day.

Keeping in mind the visits of VVIPs, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari has ordered that no one will be allowed to carry any licensed weapon along. Sharp-edged weapons have also been banned. The orders will be in force from December 13-February 12.

According to Police Commissioner Ishwar Singh, about 1,600 policemen have been deployed in and around the Guru Nanak Stadium. Out of these, about 1,000 cops have been called from outside Ludhiana.

Separate entry gates like previous years will be made for VVIPs, VIPs, mediapersons, sponsors and people of general category. Traffic movement will be restricted on a few roads.
