Man held for gangrape of niece, hunt on for 2 others

A man was arrested on the charge of raping his 13-year-old niece in the Sihani Gate area of Ghaziabad on Sunday morning.

Two other accused in the case, both cousins of the girl, managed to flee, police said.

Police said the three men also tried to strangulate the girl when she tried to raise the alarm.

According to police, the girl was kidnapped and gangraped while she was her way to the market to buy groceries.

"When she didn't return, her family members began searching for in the locality. They heard muffled screams coming from her uncle's house nearby. When her family members rang the doorbell, her uncle panicked and tried to escape. He was stopped by local residents who had gathered around the house. The two others managed to escape through the back door. The family then rescued the girl and approached police," a senior officer said.

"The girl told us that the three men kidnapped her and took her to her uncle's house. They then took turns raping her, and, when she resisted, they tried to strangulate her. The girl will be made to undergo a medical examination. Investigation is in progress and the other two men will be arrested soon," the officer said.

Based on the family's complaint, police have registered a case of gangrape, kidnapping and attempt to murder against the three at Sihani Gate police station.
