Man lures 3-year-old with chocolate, rapes her

Dharavi police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly lured a three-year-old girl with chocolates and raped her. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. Apart from charges of kidnapping and rape under the Indian Penal Code, police have invoked three sections of the recently introduced Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, in the case.

Police said the victim stays with her parents and siblings at the Dharavi transit camp and was playing with friends outside her residence when she went missing. Her father, who returned home from work around 6.30 pm, noticed the girl was missing and asked her friends, but they did know where she had gone, police said.

"Her parents and others searched the area. Half-an-hour later, her mother found her sitting outside a public toilet, crying. The girl was bleeding," said senior inspector Ashok Survegandh.

The girl told her mother that she was playing when an "uncle" gave her a chocolate and lured her to a residential compound around 200 m away. The compound has 350 MHADA houses, built for rehabilitation of residents of demolished slums. Only 45 of these are occupied, because of which the area is isolated, police said. The victim said that the man took her to the compound and "did bad things to her".

"We have asked the mohalla committee to encourage anyone who might have seen the victim with the accused to help us. The girl is unable to describe the accused or pinpoint the spot where the rape occurred," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Prabhakar Satam, Kurla division.
