A 35-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide by hanging after murdering his wife, police said.
The incident was reported from Sangam Vihar in Southeast Delhi. He has been arrested and booked for murder and attempt to suicide. Police said the accused, identified as Sri Niwas, first strangulated his wife Meera (35) to death and then tried to end his life.
However, his 11-year-old son intervened and saved his life.
"Niwas had also written a suicide note addressed to his father before killing Meera. He worked as a driver and suspected his wife was having an extramarital affair with a neighbour. The couple had tiffs over this earlier as well ," a senior police officer said.
Niwas was reportedly upset over this and decided to take the extreme step in frustration, police said.
He wrote a note addressed to his father in which he blamed Meera of cheating on him.
"Then, he strangulated Meera. Later, he hanged himself too but as Niwas was trying to commit suicide, his eldest son walked in and pulled his father down," the officer added.
"He wrote in his note that he had loved his wife and tried to take good care of her but said she had cheated on him and she ditched him. He asked his father to take care of his three children — two boys and a girl. Niwas has been admitted to a hospital and his condition is stable now. We have booked him for murder and attempt to suicide under Sections 302/309 of the IPC," the officer said.
