In reply to a showcause notice issued by the Municipal Corporation, A K Sood Builders and Engineers have stated that officials of the civic body had supplied cement to Sarvpriya Building Products, which shows that they were aware of sub-letting of the contract and approved of it.
A K Sood Builders was issued a notice by the MC for sub-letting the contract given to them for upgrading infrastructure in Sector 17. The builders had further given the contract to Sarvpriya Building Products.
The scam came to light when the UT Vigilance department caught a contractor pilfering 200 bags of cement from a store in Sector 17.
The notice was issued on April 5. In their reply, the builders have stated that they had submitted an application for sub-letting the contract to the XEN's office on November 10, 2009.
The MC then issued cement to Sarvpriya Building Products. This indicates that officials approved of sub-letting of the contract, the reply reads.
It has further been claimed by the company that the notice is not valid as it was served after the agreement ended.
Meanwhile, preparing a reply, officials of the civic body claimed that no application for sub-letting the contract was ever received. Other options to complete the pending work in Sector 17 are also being worked out. Large parts of the sector have been dug up as the flooring had to be changed.
With work having stopped midway, it has become a matter of inconvenience for shopowners as well as shoppers.
