Finally, the Municipal Corporation on Tuesday auctioned seven of the eight paid parking lots, earning a revenue of Rs 1.05 crore.
The MC had cancelled the auctions held in January and February stating that the prices being received were less than the highest bid in the previous auctions even though these were more than the reserve price. A similar situation was witnessed on Tuesday as well in case of some parking lots.
The highest bid was received for the paid parking lot near Empire Store in Sector 17. This was auctioned for Rs 28.65 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 23.25 lakh. The parking lot is semi-automated and is being proposed to be made completely automated.
The paid parking lot in Sector 34 Zone-I was auctioned for Rs 22.26 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 21 lakh while another one in Zone-II fetched Rs 10 lakh. The paid parking lot in Sector 9-D was auctioned for Rs 8.25 lakh against the reserve price of Rs 7.61 lakh.
The paid parking lot in front of CMC building in Sector 17 was auctioned for Rs 18 lakh. During the auction held in January, the highest bid received for the parking lot was Rs 21.50 lakh. Despite this, it was not handed over to the contractor saying the bid price was less than what the parking lot had received earlier.
Additional Commissioner Lalit Siwach said, "The aim of the civic body is not to earn revenue, but to provide facilities to the residents. The bid prices received are above the reserve price. The process of handing over the parking lots would be expedited so that it is completed before Diwali."
The only parking lot that did not find any takers was the one near the office of Medical Officer of Health.
