MC employees donít work till not rapped, says Mayor

Ludhiana Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria got candid during talks with Canadian MP Jasbir Sandhu. Exposing loopholes in the working of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, he rapped the Municipal Corporation employees and said, "They do not work until reminded over 10 times a day. You have to sit on their head and make them work."

His remarks followed Sandhu's praise for Canada where the 'local administration is very active and efficient.'

"If there is a pothole in the road, the complaint

will not reach us. It will be solved within a few hours by local administration," Sandhu had said.

Praising the initiatives being taken by deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, Gohalwaria who shares close ties with the Chief Minister and deputy Chief Minister said, "Our deputy Chief Minister is working for good trade ties between India and Canada. The people here want all the facilities but do not want to pay for them."

Further, terming private schools 'shops' opened by people, the mayor said, "People here do not trust government schools but

believe in shops opened by people. The state government puts in a lot of effort to improve the education system."

Meanwhile, Sandhu said since Punjabis were prospering in Canada, India should benefit from it by increasing trade. "Punjabis constitute 35 per cent of Canadian population and have 65 per cent of land holdings. It is incredible," said Sandhu who migrated to Canada 34 years ago from Jalandhar and became a Canadian MP in 2011.
