MDU V-C orders probe into recovered answersheets from university terrace

As per norms, bundles of answer sheets are to be kept in the secrecy branch for assessment and marking after being collected from various examination centres. Dr B S Sandhu, Controller of Examination, MDU, is the custodian of the secrecy branch as keys of almirahs, in which the answer sheets are supposed to be kept, remain with him and the secrecy branch incharge.

Many other factors also raise eyebrows in the entire scandal. As many as six close-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) installed in the secrecy branch were also found defunct and it was being suspected that the CCTVs were also intentionally tampered, by the people responsible, to smuggle the answer sheets.

Hooda, while talking to the Indian Express, said, "Such an incident is not possible without the connivance of university officials. Secrecy branch officials, security staff or even senior officials of the university could be involved. This is the second such incident in the last one month. On January 17 night, a few people were found running out of the secrecy branch with some bundles and the lock of the main gate was found broken. Our security staff chased those people, but could not catch them. The controller brought it to my notice only on January 21. Since then, I had instructed him to personally supervise the functioning of the secrecy branch. We are probing both the cases".

"We have received a complaint from the MDU authorities and are analysing it. Based on the complaint, further course of action will be decided. A case will be registered and investigations be conducted to ascertain the truth," a Rohtak police spokesperson said.
