Minor raped, forced to drink cleaning liquid, two held

TWO men were arrested in Sewree Tuesday in connection with the alleged rape of a minor Monday, police said. One of the suspects also allegedly forced the girl to consume cleaning liquid, they added. The duo have been remanded in police custody till January 4, police said.

Tabrez Shaikh (23) and his brother Nasir Shaikh (21), along with two other accomplices, allegedly abducted the 17-year-old girl from her Reay Road home early Monday morning and took her to an isolated spot in Darukhana in Sewri.

In her complaint, the girl has alleged that Tabrez raped her. When she resisted, Nasir forced her to drink cleaning liquid, police said. The victim narrated the incident to her family once she managed to return home, following which a complaint was registered at the Sewree police station.

The suspects have been charged under Sections 376 (rape), 326A (causing hurt by throwing acid) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

"We have arrested Tabrez and Nasir on the basis of the complaint and are investigating the case further," said inspector K V Awhare of the Sewree police station.

Awhare added that the girl and Tabrez were in a relationship before. "The girl's parents had been pressuring Tabrez to marry her but he kept putting it off," he said.

Police said the victim changed her statements several times. "At first, she was not able to give details of the location she was taken to and the time of the incident. We are awaiting the medical reports of the girl," he said.

He added that the police were looking out for the other two accused.
