Mithun replaces injured Vinay

Karnataka medium pacer R Vinay Kumar was on Tuesday ruled out of the Twenty20 series against England due to a strained right calf muscle, paving the way for state mate Abhimanyu Mithun's return to the Indian squad.

Kumar will be out of action for two weeks, BCCI secretary Sanjay Jagdale said in a statement. The all-India senior selection committee will meet on Sunday, at the Cricket Centre in Mumbai, to pick the team for the T20 International and ODI series against Pakistan, the statement said.

India are scheduled to play England in two Twenty20 internationals in Pune on Thursday and in Mumbai on Saturday. Vinay's injury once again highlights the problem India face when it comes to ensuring that their best fast bowlers are always available to play for the country.

Among the younger fast bowlers, Umesh Yadav, who impressed in the first Test against England by getting the ball to reverse swing, missed out on the remaining three Test because of a back injury. Varun Aaron is in Australia for rehabilitation while the likes of Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan, Praveen Kumar and RP Singh are all injured. S Sreesanth has only started playing four-day games after a long injury-induced lay-off.
