Mobile planetarium Suhana Tarangan was inaugurated on Wednesday by eminent geologist Prakash Tupe on Gangadham-Katraj Road. The brainchild of BS Deshmukh from Akola and supported by city-based Pravin Masalewale, the planetarium is slated to visit various towns and cities across the state and help students immensely.
"The planetariums are generally situated in big cities and for people in rural areas to visit a planetarium is a difficult and expensive proposition. I thought of developing such a planetarium so that I could take it to different cities and smaller areas. It will help students," said Deshmukh.
The planetarium accommodates 40 people and takes a day to be set up. The planetarium will conduct free shows for students from municipal schools from 9 am to noon till February 5. For other schools and families the show will be screened from 1 pm onwards.
The 45-minute show in Marathi will explain the concept of the universe, stars, planets, constellations and gives information on various theories related to space and astronomy.
