Murdered trader's kin stage sit-in seeking SP MLA’s arrest
The family of murdered trader Ram Mohan Gupta, also a witness in the murder of Hindu Yuva Vahini leader and his uncle Ram Babu Gupta, has sat on an indefinite sit-in at their house in Tanda in Ambedkar Nagar, demanding arrest of local Samajwadi Party MLA Azeemul Haq Pahalwan and other accused.
Ram Mohan was shot inside his shop in Tanda Wednesday night. His uncle Vedprakash accused Tanda SP MLA Pahalwan of conspiring Ram Mohan's killing as he was a witness of Ram Babu's murder in March.
Vedprakash claimed that the MLA was having an enmity with Ram Babu who had organised a protest against him in 2012.
Ram Mohan's parents Ram Prakash and Kusum, siblings Ashish, Ravi, Poonam and Gudiya have been staging the sit-in outside their house since Friday.
Vedprakash said they are demanding that accused Irfan, Shahid, Rehman and MLA Pahalwan should be arrested. "We will continue the protest if the arrests are not made," he said. They family are also demanding a CBI probe into Ram Mohan's murder.
Vedprakash also said action should be taken against Tanda Circle Officer and other policemen for misbehaving with the family Thursday while carrying Ram Mohan's body for postmortem.
Ambedkar Nagar SP Sunil Saxena said the police are collecting evidence before arresting the accused. "Maintaining law and order after the killing was our first priority, which we did. We are now working to initiate action and collect evidence in the case," he said.
