New tablet launched at CII fair, takes ‘swipe’ at Aakash
With an opportunity for the traders across the world to interact with their Indian counter parts, the Chandigarh Fair organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has also given a platform for the launch of India's smallest tablet, Swipe.
Being manufactured in California, it is the first time that the tablet is being launched in the City Beautiful. There is a range of five tablets out of which four are selling at a good pace. "We have already sold 200 pieces in the Tricity region," said one of the sales executives.
Swipe "pocket" is a six inch tablet that has all the features of a smart phone with a sim-card slot and a mini-tablet. With a cost of Rs 4,800, the mini tablet has been doing well in the market as per the sales executives present at the Confederation of Indian Industry fair.
Another tablet that is catching the eye of many technology lovers is the 3D Life tab. This tablet has an additional feature in which one can watch the 3D motion picture. The Rs 6,300 tablet is accompanied with a pair of 3D glasses.
The other tabs include features which can render them to be a phone and a tab at the same time. The Swipe comes pre-installed with all the popular applications like the instant messaging service, "whatsapp", free internet calling softwares like "viber" and popular games like "angry birds", "temple run" etc.
According to the sales executive at the stall in CII, the tablet is available in the market, "though, the tabs are not as cheap as the Aakash tab, but it has good features", said Vanit Sethi, deputy director, Confederation of Indian Industry.
