No irregularity in sale of land to Ponty’s Wave by Maya govt: CM

There was no financial irregularity in the sale of a 6.14 lakh square metre plot in Sectors 25 and 32 A of Noida to Wave Infrastructure Private Limited (Consortium) by the previous Mayawati government, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav informed the State Assembly in a written reply on Thursday.

Wave Infrastructure Private Limited, which was promoted by Ponty Chadha, is developing Wave City Centre on the land. In reply to a question by Samajwadi Party's Ravidas Mehrotra, the Chief Minister said the plot was given to Wave Infrastructure according to the existing norms through a bidding system.

In response to advertisements in national dailies, three bids were received and Wave Infrastructure quoted the highest rate of Rs 1,07,003 per square metre. After this, the allottment letter was issued by the Noida Authority, he said.

Akhilesh also said there was no question of any high-level probe into the sale.

Later, Mehrotra, however, expressed his dissatisfaction over the reply. "I am not satisfied with the reply.

The allottment process was tailor-made to suit a particular person. Even the two bidders who had quoted a lesser price were dummy firms of Wave Infrastructure. It was a big scam and should be probed," he told The Indian Express.

He said he will meet the Chief Minister personally and demand a high-level probe. "During our election campaign we went to the people highlighting the corruption done by the Mayawati regime and it is our moral duty to conduct an inquiry," Mehrotra added.

Mehrotra, who represents Lucknow (Central) constituency, however, denied that his question and demand would put his own party in embarrassment. "It is an issue of principle. We should remember our election promise of probing the corrupt deals of Mayawati. We cannot go back on this," he claimed. He said that some officials were misguiding Akhilesh and they were giving replies which were far from the truth.
