Now, Economic Offences Wing to accept complaints in frauds of Rs 25 lakh or more
The UT Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) will now accept complaints in cases, where there has been a fraud of Rs 25 lakh or more. The earlier limit was Rs 10 lakh, which was increased from Rs 2 lakh a few years back.
Inspectors posted with the EOW have been directed to concentrate on specific areas in Chandigarh.
"We have increased the limit so that the cases with the EOW are limited in number to ensure enhanced quality of inquiry," DIG Alok Kumar said.
Six inspectors in the EOW have been assigned the responsibility of two police stations each to look into the matters pertaining to the economic offences. "We have better organised the system to dispose off cases in three months. In cases pertaining to economic offences, a lot of paperwork is required. We have to attain a lot of documents. So, we need a time span of three months to dispose off the cases," said DSP (EOW), Anil Joshi.
A source, however, said decision has been taken to ensure that inspectors do their work. With authorities having decided to mark a particular case to one inspectors, these cases are expected to be disposed off soon. Each inspector has been given a team of sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors to help.
In 2012, the EOW had received 700 complainants, of which, 582 have been disposed off while 84 care being investigated and 108 complaints are being verified.
