Online registration: GSHSEB adds servers, extends deadline

'Servers continue to run slow and Internet connection is also very weak. So far, we have been able to register only 40 out of 400 students'

Even as the state education board has added four new servers to speed up the online registration of students appearing in the coming Class X board exams, the process remains slow in schools located in rural and semi-urban areas due to poor Internet connection.

For the first time, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has made it compulsory for around 9,500 schools, both granted and non-granted, to do online registration of Class X students by November 15.

Earlier, the last date to complete the process was October 31.

However, several schools are yet to begin the process.

"So far, we have not filled a single online form as the Internet speed is very slow here. For the last two years, we have been complaining about this to the authorities concerned, but nothing has happened," said Raksha Shah, principal of Dr N G Shah Sarvajanik High School in Waghodia town near Vadodara.

N V Sarvajanik High School in Karjan is also yet to start online registration of its five hundred students. "The government provided us one computer with BSNL broadband connection but the speed is too slow to fill up the forms," said principal Pradipsinh Jhala.

"Servers continue to run slow here and Internet connection is also very weak. So far, we have been able to register only 40 out of 400 students," said D F Parmar, principal of Srimati S B Solanki High School in Naswadi.

"The server speed has improved slightly over the last two days but Internet connection continues to be a problem," said Sharda Mandir High School principal Bharat Shah, adding that they have submitted forms of 30 of the total 255 students.
